Approximately $70,000 was raised in last month's Fire-Rescue Extravaganza. Karen Kaufman's pictures are her record of the events and people involved. According to Fire Chief Chuck Berry, "Our fire company's biennial effort takes on special significance this year in light of Florida's recent property tax control initiative that resulted in a $25,000 reduction in our budget for the 2008 fiscal year. Because we do not use tax dollars from our operating budget for the purchase of new equipment, we are solely dependent on voluntary contributions to upgrade our fire, rescue and EMS gear. All proceeds from this exciting event will be used to purchase new fire, rescue, and emergency medical equipment; as well as address maintenance issues at the fire house during the next 2 years."
